چکیده

H The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of polyunsaturated phosphatidylcholine (PPC) in NT FactorTM* on aging, in general, and ageassociated hearing loss, in specific. Additionally, this brief report supports that the Membrane Hypothesis of Aging (MHA) provides a plausible explanation for agerelated hearing loss. According to this hypothesis, which is also known as the Mitochondrial Clock Theory of Aging, Reactive Oxygen Metabolites (ROM), are responsible for progressive insults on mitochondria and other cellular structures. Over an extended time period, these insults accumulate leading to a reduction in the energy generating capacity of the mitochondria, cellular demise and resultant senescence. Soy lecithin is a source from which PPC can be extracted. These molecules are indispensable for cellular differentiation, proliferation and

Influence of lecithin on mitochondrial DNA and age-related hearing loss.

OBJECTIVES Lecithin is a polyunsaturated phosphatidylcholine (PPC), which are high energy functional and structural elements of all biologic membranes. PPC play a rate-limiting role in the activation of numerous membrane-located enzymes, including superoxide dismutase and glutathione, which are important antioxidants protecting cell membranes from damage by reactive oxygen species (ROS). ROS-in...

The Effect of 4 Weeks of Aerobic Training on Spatial Learning, Memory Performance and Mitochondrial Dynamics in the Hippocampal Tissue of Old Rats

Background & objectives: Mitochondrial dysfunction is one of the main risk factors for neurological diseases which are associated with aging. On the other hand, aerobic exercise has beneficial effects on the brain health and cognitive function, and also improves mitochondrial dynamics. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of 4 weeks of aerobic exercise on spatia...

Effects of Age on the Auditory System and Process of Presbycusis in the Audiology Centers of Tehran

Objectives: Hearing loss is a major public health problem and has higher prevalence in elderly persons. Present study was conducted with the aim of characterizing age-related changes on audiometric thresholds and word discrimination ability of people with age range of 30 to 100 years. Methods & Materials: Hundred ninty persons (male 53.68% and female 46.32%) in seven aged decades were studie...

Eicosapentaenoic acid but not docosahexaenoic acid restores skeletal muscle mitochondrial oxidative capacity in old mice

Mitochondrial dysfunction is often observed in aging skeletal muscle and is implicated in age-related declines in physical function. Early evidence suggests that dietary omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFAs) improve mitochondrial function. Here, we show that 10 weeks of dietary eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) supplementation partially attenuated the age-related decline in mitochondrial fu...

A Review of Mitochondrial Biogenesis and Cellular Response

Abstract Background and Objectives Mitochondrial biogenesis is a complex process involving the coordinated expression of mitochondrial and nuclear genes, the import of the products of the latter into the organelle and turnover of this process. Mitochondrial malfunction or defects in any of the many pathways involved in mitochondrial biogenesis can lead to degenerative diseases and possibly pla...
